Went to a gathering full of strange and new people last night. Was a step out for me, but I was invited by a guy who had been here a mere three months and felt that after a year and a half it would be good to meet new people.
It was ok. Awkward at times, but there were a few good moments. Met a girl whose gaga over christmas and invited me over to bake christmas cookies and watch the movie "Elf". I accepted but I'm not sure how easily it'll happen.. we'll see.
Most of the people there seemed around 30. I think the oldest was 34. Normally I feel really comfortable with people of all age ranges (for the most part), but with these guys there was a definite difference of style. They definitely gave off the vibes of the generation right before mine. Lovers of Widespread Panic, prolly Phish, Bowie, and a few obscure artists. Not that I don't like these groups and people, it's that there's a difference in energy.. it's so hard to explain unless you feel it. Very posh types as well. Felt like they were a little more into the image of being "grown up" than most people I've met older than they are.
Needless to say I felt a bit out of place there. I could have done one-on-one with most of the people there, but the fact that there were like fifteen people there, several of whom were knew to group for the most part, and in a small apartment, made it very hard to do that with any one person. I did speak to one person predominantly, but even that was a bit stretched with the crazy level of noise.
It wasn't too bad. Maybe out of the group I found a couple of people that I could hang out with. There could definitely be cooking classes in my future (free one are apparently offered at an Earthfare in CH. If nothing I could at least get a free meal from time to time ^^
